Who are we?
The name ISERA stands for āInternational Society for the Education and Rescue of Animalsā.
ISERA is an international non-profit organisation with its headquarters in Belgium. We want to improve animal welfare standards by providing professional assistance. Our activities mainly take place in Belgium, but we are also regularly active abroad.
ISERA does not receive any subsidies and is 100% dependent on donations.
If you are as passionate as we are about animal welfare, please support us with your generosity.

What is our goal?
Our goal is to help animals in need by providing quality care.
Every animal has the right to veterinary care, including street and shelter animals that have no home.
We organize various projects in collaboration with a team of
volunteer veterinarians, veterinary nurses and animal caretakers.
A mobile operating theatre
for animals
The King Baudouin Foundation grants its
cooperation on this project
We have started a fundraising campaign for the creation of a mobile operating theatre for animals. A new concept that does not yet exist in Belgium, but which is needed. People who want to support our project can make their donations directly to the King Baudouin Foundation and enjoy certain tax benefits depending on the country in which they are located. The donations that we collect via the King Baudouin Foundation go entirely to our new project. We will use all donations collected to purchase a fully medically equipped vehicle.

Shelter Medicine
Shelter medicine is a young field within veterinary medicine that deals with the care of stray and abandoned animals. It specializes in providing valuable guidance on how to handle situations that arise in an animal shelter. The main goal is to improve the lives of homeless and shelter animals by focusing on their health and well-being.
Animals in need
Animals can find themselves in life-threatening situations from time to time and we want to be there to help them. We want to reduce or even prevent their suffering by providing a preventive and curative approach. Research has repeatedly shown that animals do feel pain and that they can suffer, just like any of us. Animals deserve to be treated with (mutual) respect, because they are individual, sentient and conscious beings.
Community work
We help animals in need and improve animal welfare standards by spreading information and educating. Together we build a better future through community work. With continued efforts and sufficient support, we can improve the lives of many animals and alleviate or even prevent their suffering. That is why we continue to take fundamental steps to emphasize the importance of educating people in our society about animal welfare.

FIV/FeLV Screening Program
In 2023, we started a new program in Belgium, the FIV/FeLV screening program. In collaboration with the college 'Thomas More' in Geel (Antwerp), we took blood samples from more than 40 cats and the veterinary nursing students analyzed these results to map the current situation of FIV/FeLV-infected cats. With this Shelter Medicine project, we focus on supporting shelters by providing scientifically based advice, but also on establishing useful protocols to reduce cross-contamination within the shelter environment.

ABC-project
In August 2022, we organized an Animal Birth Control project in the Netherlands. With these types of projects, we reduce expensive veterinary costs for animal shelters without reducing the quality of care. In collaboration with 3 different local shelters and with a team of volunteer veterinarians and veterinary assistants, we spayed and neutered 40 cats in one day. Some cats were also vaccinated and chipped. It was a successful day, because all cats have recovered well from the surgery, fully ready to be adopted.

International volunteer work
In 2019, our team traveled to India and volunteered at the animal shelter āPeepal Farmā for over two weeks. The ISERA team also visited two other renowned animal organizations, namely āDharamsala Animal Rescueā and āSanjay Gandhi Animal Hospitalā in New Delhi. During this trip, our team was exposed to various distressing situations of street animals and the daily struggles of caring for the countless homeless and injured animals in India. Offering a helping hand to local or international charities makes a huge difference to them.
Success Stories
Our mascot, Bob
Our mascot or better said mascat, is a special cat and his name is Bob. Bob didnāt have the best start in life. He was only a few weeks old when he started to feel really sick and because his owner couldnāt take care of him anymore, he was abandoned at the nearby animal hospital. Caroline, the co-founder of ISERA, worked there as a veterinary nurse and she did everything she could to give this little patient the care he needed. A few weeks later, Bob had fully recovered and was ready for adoption. Of course, Caroline and her husband Jaume couldnāt let him go anymore. Since then, Bob has become part of the family and his presence has partly led to the creation of ISERA! Bobās story is a beautiful example to remind us that the dedication and attention of a few people has the potential to save many lives.

A small but brave puppy Yogi
Sometimes it is hard to understand why animals are abandoned, especially when they are feeling unwell, sick and need our support the most. But this is exactly what happened to Yogi when he got sick. He was abandoned and struggled with various conditions such as: diarrhea, vomiting, loss of appetite, low blood sugar, parasites, etc. Fortunately, the veterinary team did not give up and continued with the treatments despite his poor condition. It is a miracle that little Yogi survived, but with the right treatment, dedication and a passionate team, many lives can be saved.
